Creative Writing Workshop- Roald Dahl


An enthusiastic amateur writer, Sally Spade, is keen to share her love of stories; How do they work? What’s involved? Can anyone create one?

With the help of well-known and much loved writer Roald Dahl, Sally takes the children on a journey of discovery into the world of storytelling.



During this workshop, the children will:


  • Discuss the stories of Roald Dahl, and what makes them so memorable
  • In groups, create pictures from individual stories
  • Learn how a story is structured
  • Look at characterisation
  • Learn a song
  • Create and perform their own version of one of Roald Dahl’s revolting Rhymes

An enthusiastic amateur writer, Sally Spade, is keen to share her love of stories; How do they work? What’s involved? Can anyone create one? With the help of the well-known fairy tale Cinderella, Sally takes the children on a journey of discovery into the world of storytelling.


During this workshop, the children will:


  • Discuss what makes a good story
  • Experience how a story can be structured
  • Look at characterisation
  • Create a soundscape
  • Create and perform their own version of Cinderella

Creative Writing Workshop - Superheroes


An enthusiastic amateur writer, Sally Spade, is keen to share her love of stories and in particular graphic novels. How do they work? What’s involved? Can anyone create one? With the help of some well-known Superheroes, Sally takes the children on a journey of discovery into the world of storytelling.


This session has been devised to engage and inspire boys, in particular, who may need some encouragement to find the writer within, but works equally well with all children. The session can also be adapted to encourage self confidence and sense of worth – helping children to find their own superpowers within.


During this workshop, the children will:


  • Discuss what makes a good story
  • Learn how a story can be structured
  • Look at characterisation
  • Explore story telling through mime
  • Create and perform their own version of a superhero tale

Introducing Shakespeare – Macbeth


Our professional actor will lead the children on a fun exploration of ‘all things Shakespeare’, helping them to appreciate how exciting and accessible his work can be. Through voice exercises, storytelling, text work and improvisation, the children will be encouraged to free inhibitions and discover the confidence to perform his work!


During this workshop, the children will:


  • Prepare their voices for performance
  • Discuss / be introduced to the story of Macbeth
  • Explore Shakespearean text and the rich use of language
  • Create an atmospheric scene; physically and vocally
  • Look at characterisation using the witches from Macbeth
  • Develop a short performance piece
