  • Visit a workhouse run by the intimidating ‘Mr Bumble’
  • Look at Crime and Punishment, in particular relating to children during Victorian Times
  • Learn a song from the popular Music Hall
  • Discover how Victorian England was transformed through innovation and The Industrial Revolution and take part in ‘The Great Exhibition of 1851’ with special guest Queen Victoria herself!

“I just wanted to email and say thank you so much for our Victorian workshop today!! Please feed this back to the actor as she was incredible! She had some challenging classes today with SEN needs etc, but was amazing at keeping every single child engaged! The children loved it and I am sure it will be an experience to remember!!”

Florence Nightingale Workshop

Travel back in time with the famous Lady with the Lamp and learn about her life, in particular the impact she had on nursing and the sanitisation of our hospitals.

During this workshop, the children will:

  • Recreate the Victorian period within which Florence was working
  • Travel back to the Satari hospital during the Crimean War and using improvisation, explore this challenging environment
  • Discover what it might have been like to be a nurse or soldier during the war
  • Learn about Mary Seacole and the prejudice she faced at the time
  • Act out the story of Florence, using a poem for inspiration

“The children really enjoyed the session and it was something that, as a school, we would not have been able to deliver. Every child left the session with an increased knowledge of Florence Nightingale. We enjoyed the practical nature – bandaging their teddy bears and being able to act out parts of Florence Nightingale’s life.”

Lauren, Year 2 Teacher, Hurst Park Primary School

Through improvisation, role play, games and storytelling the children will:

  • Be introduced to the Victorian era
  • Explore the wide social gap between rich and poor
  • Look at Christmas traditions and entertainment
  • Learn a traditional Victorian song
  • Meet Scrooge and explore the themes raised in ‘A Christmas Carol’
  • Improvise and create the characters from the story
  • Create their own version of A Christmas Carol

“The lady who led the workshop was lovely. We have had many History based workshops attend our school but this was by far the best.”
